How FCPS Plans on Reopening This School Year

Weekly Schedule and Important Dates: 

  • Classes start on Aug. 24. This first week will be treated like an orientation week for students to adjust to virtual learning and receive information and materials from their teachers. Students will learn how to use virtual learning platforms such as Blackboard Collaborate, Blackboard Discussion Boards, Google Classroom and Google Meet. 
  • Students should check their GAFE accounts and Blackboard near the end of this week so that teachers can determine students’ needs for virtual learning.
  • Students will learn 100 percent virtually with teachers working from the school through December. 
  • Schools will follow this calendar moving through the school year. 
  • Mondays and Thursdays will run as synchronous days (students work live with teachers and classmates during designated time slots), with Tuesdays and Fridays as asynchronous (Students will work at their own pace with assistance from teachers) and Wednesdays as a planning day for teachers and a day where students may work with extracurriculars and/or receive help from teachers. 
    • Virtual Learning Synchronous Schedule:
      • 8:10 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. – Advisory (This will be a set time for students and parents to communicate with teachers through email)
      • 8:50 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. – Block 1 
      • 10:20 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. – Block 2
      • 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.- Lunch
      • 12:40 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Block 3
      • 2:10 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Block 4 
    • Mondays will be A days and Thursday will be B days. If there is no school on Monday, the week will be from Tuesday through Thursday. Tuesday and Thursday will be synchronous, and Wednesday and Friday will be asynchronous. 

 

Student Registration: 

  • Students must be registered online for this school year. 
  • Returning families may use Campus Portal to add new student registrations and annual registrations. 

 

Device and Textbook Distribution:

  • Chromebooks, hotspots and textbooks will be distributed on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00: p.m. at the front build of FHS. 
  • Fill this form if a student would like to request a device and/or hotspot. 
  • Students enrolled in the following classes should pick up their textbooks on the date set above (If a student’s class is not listed below, they do not have to pick up textbooks):
    • Mr. Leavell – Algebra Functions and Data
    • Mrs. Nix-Berg – Probability and Statistics
    • Mrs. Meyer – Discrete Math
    • Mrs. Feehan – Math Analysis
    • Mr. Smith – AP Government
    • Mr. Paul – Music Theory
    • Mrs. Hatfield – AP Physics
    • Mr. Deaver – AP Chemistry
    • Mr. Shaw – Earth Science
    • Mrs. Bogart- Government
