Get ready to shoot and score! Chase Davenport is ready to spread good vibes and positivity this year. Some may remember him from Marshall Middle School (MMS) where he taught Health and Physical Education. Davenport is now here teaching Algebra I and Geometry.
Davenport says he has enjoyed coaching since he was a little kid. “All of my coaches have been role models for me, but my longest-serving coach, Scott Gould… really taught me how to play the game the right way which stuck with me into coaching,” said Davenport.
Davenport is now the head boys soccer coach at FHS. In his free time, Davenport enjoys playing and watching sports with his son and wife. “I will be supporting the New Orleans Saints and Manchester United until I die,” said Davenport.
Davenport went to Longwood University where he earned a degree in Health/PE with a Driver’s Education Endorsement. This is his first year teaching math. Before he came to FHS, he taught Health and PE for two years at Shirley Heim Middle School in Stafford County and for five years at MMS.
He saw teaching as an opportunity to be a positive influence on youth education and preparation for adulthood. If he wasn’t a teacher, he would have gone into law enforcement. “My dad was a police officer in New Orleans, where I grew up, and my brother has been a police officer his whole career. Law enforcement is in my blood,” said Davenport.
When asked about his hopes to bring to FHS and the students, Davenport says, “I am a huge fan of being students’ biggest fans. I understand that if I want students to be excited to learn, then I will need to be excited to teach.” His favorite part of teaching is helping every student succeed, especially kids who are challenged. “They may not be the best at certain subjects and struggle to understand what is being taught, but I want to help them achieve their goals,” said Davenport.
