Volleyball serves up young rotation

The volleyball team opened up its season with three 3-0 losses, but recently have built some momentum, winning matches against Osbourn, Chancellor, and King George. Lone senior captain Josie Adgate’s job is to keep the volleyball team on track for a good season.
“I want the team to work hard in practice, and have it carry over to games,” Adgate said.
Coach Diana Story has high praise for Adgate.
“We have a lot of players who have stepped up, but Josie is definitely the leader,” Story said.
Junior captain Eliane Zalewski demonstrated her work ethic over the summer.
“I played in a travel league, the Virginia Piedmont Volleyball Association, and went to open gyms,” Zalewski said. “I also went to team camp and another camp through Highland.”
Although Adgate is the only senior, the youth and inexperience of the team isn’t an issue for coach Story.
“I’m not worried about leadership,” Story said. “Our confidence is too low, but the wins against Osbourn and Chancellor were huge steps.”
Zalewski expects the team to have a great season.
“I feel we’re going to grow as a team as the season goes on,” Zalewski said. “I think we have a good shot at winning districts this year.”
Story has similarly high expectations.
“We’re very talented,” Story said. “The girls say my expectations are too high sometimes, but with their talent, we can compete and do well in the district for sure.”
