The French Club presents charcuterie boards during a club meeting.

The French club bakes, makes charcuterie boards, crafts, sings karaoke, watches movies, plays games and learns about French culture. Sound fun? Join the club!

The club meets every Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Nicole Geopper’s room, 601 in the cube. Even if you are not in French class but are looking for a fun time, joining the club is possible. “You don’t need to speak the language to join the club,” club member Grace Jones said. “We just talk in English and sometimes say French phrases to each other, like Enchanté which means nice to meet you,” said Jones. Meeting new people is a major part of the French club.

French or American holidays get extra special attention in the French club. On Jan. 10, they celebrated Epiphany by baking a King’s Cake also called ‘La Galette des Rois’ celebrating the visit of the three wise men to baby Jesus. For Halloween, they watched French short Horror Films. “Some of them were kind of funny but others were actually scary,” Jones said.

While the French club allows students to learn a lot about French culture, Jones believes it goes beyond that, saying, “I think this is a really good opportunity to learn more about the world in general.” Jones said, “France is where the language originated but there are so many more countries that speak it as well.” The French club focuses not only on France but also other countries who speak French.
