Maggie Grady
15-year-old sophomore.
Grady’s art piece was inspired by Nigerian-American painter Kehinde Wiley who is known for his detailed paintings of African-Americans on top of colorful, bold backgrounds or patterns. For the subject of the piece, Grady chose to draw New Zealand singer Lorde because she was inspired by her music. “I thought Maggie did an excellent job of balancing both the foreground and background without taking away from her beautifully dine portrait,” said Brown. Grady says she loves art because “it’s an amazing way for people to express themselves and connect with each other no matter how different they are,” said Grady.
