A Day in the Life: Thanksgiving at Minera’s House
Like every other holiday, each person celebrates a little differently, and I guess my family is no exception. Thanksgiving happens to be my mom’s favorite holiday so sometimes we go above and beyond.
Each year we usually invite family friends over for a Thanksgiving dinner. The kitchen table is always covered with dishes of food that my mom cooks up. She’s a really good cook, and she never fails to impress with stuffing, cranberry sauce, mac and cheese, asparagus and, of course, a huge turkey. All the typical Thanksgiving day treats you’d expect to find.
However, some years my family likes to set out a dessert table for our guests. In this case, there’ll be a separate table with plates of cookies, chocolates and other pastries. I have quite the sweet tooth, so this is one of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving!
After many years of this simple yet delicious sweets table, my little brother had a crazy idea for a different Thanksgiving dessert: a Rice Krispy Treat turkey! Surprisingly, it tasted delicious, so some years, we make that instead.
When it comes to Thanksgiving, however, my favorite part about it isn’t so much the food, but rather the people I share it with. My family likes to invite friends over for dinner, so I get to see a lot of close friends of mine.
When I was younger, we’d often spend time before dinner playing in the basement with toys. Sometimes it would get wild, like the time someone hit me in the face with a plastic sword and I got a nosebleed. That was definitely something else. No matter what happened, I’d usually always end up having a great time.
As I’ve gotten older, it’s been less of wild kids playing, and more of just being able to spend time with the people I love. I like hanging out with my friends, and getting to check in with those I maybe haven’t seen in a while. I tend to find it really enjoyable, spending time with people I care about is what I’m most thankful for.
