October 10, 2020 is World Mental Health Day.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a day where we bring awareness to the struggle of mental health in every community, ethnicity, gender and age. According to MentalHealth.gov, mental health is our emotions, psychological well-being and social well-being. It affects the way we think and act and how we feel. These emotions and actions affect the way we make choices, handle stress and seemingly control our lives.
It is important to be aware of mental health at all age levels. Adolescents are affected by mental health issues differently compared to adults, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t as serious. According to the CDC, everyone can be affected by mental health and it is increasingly prevalent in youth ages 14 to 24.

Here are some ways the MentalHealth.gov says you can help:

  • Connect a person with the care that he/she needs and wants.
  • Be supportive and show you care.
  • Reassure a person struggling with mental health that it can be treated.
  • Ask questions and listen when it comes to the topic of mental health.
  • Offer help whenever you can.
  • Invite friends/family continuously to planned events.
  • Spread awareness and educate others about mental health and how to handle it.
  • Treat everyone, including people struggling with mental health, with dignity and kindness.
