What does Ashley Heflin not do? Senior Heflin is involved in what seems like countless school clubs and sports. Having to manage two varsity sports, DECA, FBLA, Chick-Fil-A leadership academy, executive council and being the SCA president doesn’t hinder Heflin.
With her “go with the flow” mentality, Heflin stays on top of her packed schedule with her mastered time management. Heflin said, “Time management has definitely been a whole process all throughout highschool [and] I’ve been trying to do better about that. But this year, sometimes in the mornings I’ll wake up earlier so I can get more work done so I can go to bed earlier…” But occasionally, this busy schedule catches up with Heflin during school, saying, “A lot of times at school I definitely am tired and sometimes I doze off in class a little bit, but I definitely don’t miss any of the important things.”
Seeing her hard work come to life helps keep Heflin motivated. She states, “When I go to an event that I helped plan through SCA or other clubs seeing everyone have so much fun and everyone getting together … It’s just really fun and I feel like it helps the classes get closer and I feel like that helps everyone have a better highschool experience.”
As if such an intimidating schedule wasn’t enough for Heflin, she joined the school’s field hockey team, adding a second varsity sport to her transcript next to varsity softball. While Heflin has been playing softball for 12 years, this will be her first year playing field hockey. Despite taking on the demanding position of goalie, Heflin loves the challenge, saying, “It’s been the best experience ever, there’s definitely been a lot of learning and Maria Camarca [teammate] has definitely helped me fit into the position. But I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love all the girls. It’s so much fun everyone is so accepting and welcoming.”
