Mr. Shaw, the Earth Science teacher, who helps his students become well-rounded.

Danny Shaw is an Earth science teacher and has been teaching Earth science for 16 years. He taught at Liberty High School before coming to teach at FHS. Shaw went to Radford University for his undergraduate degree in Music Performance but decided to get a second degree so he had more career options. Shaw’s friends and family thought he explained things well, so he looked into teaching. As he was looking into the interest he had in teaching, he noticed Earth Science. “I had just become very interested in the Geology of our area,” Shaw explained. He then went to the University of Mary Washington, where he got his certification for Earth Science and a masters degree in education.

Shaw has many hobbies; he enjoys trying everything he sees. “My main hobby would be playing saxophone and singing on the side. I have a band called Hazel River Bridge,” said Shaw. Some of his other hobbies include taking care of family, working on cars, woodworking and welding. Shaw’s all time favorite tv show is the “Andy Griffith Show.” His favorite topic in Earth science is plate tectonics.

Shaw took over being the golf coach last year and really enjoys it. “Seeing the kids grow and get better day by day” is Shaw’s favorite thing about being the golf coach. Shaw also enjoys being an Earth science teacher; his favorite thing about teaching is getting to know everyone, saying, “all the different people and personalities and getting to know people that are in our community now and will be in our community and years to come.”
