FHS Library Celebrating National Library Week
Answer trivia, win a prize! The FHS Library is hosting an overdue book return week for goodies this week in honor of National Library Week. “Libraries offer so many things: books about every subject, popular novels, e-books, audio-books, computers for looking up information nad browsing the web, printers and copiers, special activities and clubs, like poetry and book club, craft activities or just a place to hang out that is away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds,” said FHS Librarian Rebecca Isaac.
According to the American Library Association (ALA), National Library Week is from April 19 to April 25. This year, it is in order to celebrate “libraries’ resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.” (www.ala.org) Isaac said, “Libraries are really active hubs of the community…Libraries play a big part in our lives.”
In an ALA press release, on April 15, they announced their National Library Week theme of “‘Find the library at your place’ [to] highlight how libraries are offering virtual services and digital content their communities need now more than ever.” (www.ala.org) According to the release, “As the impact of the current public health crisis continues to evolve and change the work of libraries and library workers, libraries are proving resourceful and resilient, serving as a rich pipeline for content, delivering access to ebooks, movies, music, video games, virtual storytimes and activities and so much more.”
According to the American Association of School Librarians, a division of the ALA, April is School Library Month. It is focused on honoring school librarians and their libraries. “Every April school librarians are encouraged to host activities to help their school and local community celebrate the essential role that strong school libraries play in transforming learning.” (www.ala.org)
