College Board announced on March 23 via email and website that Advanced Placement (AP) exams will be administered online. The program will offer students two different test dates which vary based on the course. They will release additional updates on April 3.

Each course will have a 45-minute online free-response exam. Because not all classes were able to cover the full curriculum due to closure, the exam will only include information from the past two months into early March. 

Exams may be submitted on all devices including smartphones, tablets and computers as well as by photos of handwritten responses. College Board says they understand that not all families have internet or electronic devices and provided a link where students, parents, teachers and counselors with this issue can directly contact College Board to let them know.

Review for the exams will be available for free beginning on March 25. AP teachers across the country will deliver live course reviews which will be posted so they can be accessed at any time. Students may also receive work from their AP teachers to prepare for the exam. Review recordings can be accessed on their Youtube channel or on their course schedule.

March 25 update- College Board announced that the exams will be optional. If students choose to take the test, Fauquier County Public Schools (FCPS) stated that they will still pay for the student’s exam. However, students will still receive credit for their AP or Dual Enrollment (DE) class if they choose not to take the test.
