Fauquier High School’s (FHS) Girls Varsity Volleyball team will miss their head coach, Keely Scott this upcoming season. Scott is stepping away from FHS as an educator and as a coach to pursue a career in corporate business. Scott truly loved coaching and creating bonds with every athlete she coached. Starting her career as the varsity assistant coach in 2022, Scott eventually made her way up to become the head coach of the varsity team.
Scott played on the varsity volleyball team here at FHS and decided the best way to give back to the program was to assist with coaching the team. Scott expresses, “It’s been such a rewarding experience. Coming back to coach at the school where I once played feels like coming full circle. I love the opportunity to give back to the program that helped shape who I am. Watching the players grow in skill, confidence and teamwork reminds me of my journey, and it’s an honor to help guide theirs.”
Since Scott is leaving, there will need to be a replacement to fill the shoes of a great coach. It has been said that the school doesn’t have a person to take Scott’s place. Scott voices the problem, stating, “Coaching this team has been such a meaningful part of my life and it’s tough to walk away knowing there’s not yet someone lined up to continue the momentum we’ve built. I trust that the right person will come along, but I hope it happens soon for the sake of the team’s development and spirit.”
Khloe Link, a sophomore here at FHS, has learned a lot from Scott and would like to thank her for being there for her. “I would thank her for believing in me when nobody else did, and for overall uplifting my attitude and making me a better player,” Link stated. Scott has made very impactful connections with each athlete. Junior Kiersten Clark has learned a lot from Scott, stating, “You can’t take anything for granted.”
Scott will be missed by many as she ventures into a new career path. Scott has taught and guided many to be the best in both volleyball and to be the best person. As the school looks for a replacement, all hope they can find someone who has the passion to teach and help every athlete grow.
