Fauquier High School (FHS) has experienced many changes in the past year. Some were exciting and others took time to get used to, but FHS still found a way to make every day fun. The positivity of the students and staff helped everyone settle into the adjustments.
One of the major changes was the hiring of the new principal, Nick Brousse. With a new principal also comes a change in atmosphere. The administration and staff focused immensely on creating an organized environment for students. If the strong structure that is currently in place continues, it will improve the overall state of students’ behavior.
Another change came with the arrival of a new lunch policy. Before the change, students could go to a teachers classroom or the library with a signed pass. Once the confusion of where students were got out of hand, the administration enforced a policy that stated students were required to stay in the cafeteria during lunch. Although this was a big adjustment for students, it reduced the chaos of lunch getting out of hand.
The no phone policy was the most talked about change of the year. It took time for students to adjust to not having their phone for hours, but throughout the school year, it helped stop the distractions during class. The phone policy can be seen as frustrating towards students, but in the long run it allows students to focus solely on their work. It also gave the opportunity for increased interaction with classmates and created a comfortable space to ask questions while learning.
FHS is a constantly evolving school that takes every opportunity to improve and grow. The changes throughout the year brought the community closer together and built new friendships. Changes can be difficult, but the organized and supportive environment created good memories to look back on. FHS remains dedicated to creating a space where students not only succeed academically, but also thrive personally.
