Here at Fauquier High School (FHS), there are many incredible teachers, including Jamie Payton, a fantastic Special Education teacher. In her class, Payton comes up with different ways to help students learn challenging material. Working with students who have disabilities comes with a special passion and love. Special education teachers, including Payton, work hard to adapt the curriculum to meet their students’ needs. This kind of love and dedication is evident in Payton’s teaching and in her relationships with her students.
Many teachers remember the first moment they fell in love with the career. “I chose to be a special education teacher because when I was working in graphic design, I did a lot of events with kids with special needs, like kids with Down syndrome, and it made me fall in love with kids; I just adore them,” Payton commented.
Best Buddies of Virginia is a program that Payton uses in her classroom. This program uses innovative approaches to teach students with special needs. Payton enjoys many aspects of teaching, especially in this generation. “I have kids in high school, and I think it’s important that you guys are given direction and help.”
Payton is passionate about working with students who have disabilities. The Best Buddies of Virginia is a great program that helps students with special needs develop new, fun, and exciting learning styles.
