At Fauquier High School (FHS) students have the opportunity to try out for many sports. These teams are regarded as fun and having a family like environment with coaches that help athletes become their best. This environment has helped many athletes grow and give them the ability to continue to pursue their love for their sport into college. In total 17 students are committed to different colleges to pursue their love for their sport.
Gracie Boauback
Playing soccer since she was little Gracie Boauback is excited to start her college career at Louisiana State University (LSU) majoring in Kinesiology. For Boauback soccer is not just a sport, it's a major part of her life. “Ive always put my everything into it and it's the sport I chose when I was younger so I feel like I can't give up now.” Boauback stated. She's also excited to meet new people as not many students at FHS are going to LSU.
Justin Clarke
Justin Clarke is excited to attend Christopher Newport with a scholarship to play football. Clarke has set many goals for himself, his biggest is to make it into the NFL. “Obviously I love football, and [I want] to provide for my family.” He is excited to play football in college and is looking forward to the college experience. Clarke plans on graduating with a degree in cyber security.
Brooke Farmer
Even though she is a junior Brooke Farmer is committed to Indiana State University to play softball. She plans on majoring in pre-med. Farmer is looking forward to getting the opportunity to play division one softball and is hoping this year to win states. She is also ready for the opportunities that going to a college far away will bring.
Naima Rodrigues
Wrestling wasn't what Naima Rodrigues always thought she'd be doing. When her brother joined the team her interest peaked and led her to join. She is attending Delaware State University and plans on majoring in psychology. Rodrigues is ready for her college journey saying, “I get to be in an environment with an all girls team … and I want to qualify for NCAA.”
Sennica Scott
Attending Radford University, Seneca Scott is ready to take on the challenge of collegiate track and cross country. Majoring in communications, Scott is excited to meet new people and the new opportunities college will bring. Her goal is and has been to be one of the best on the team. One thing that has kept her running is meeting all the different people on the team. “Everyone who runs track is really nice, especially the girls and I'm so excited for my new teammates,” Scott said.
Kirsten Settle
With her mom coaching at FHS and playing field hockey. Kirsten Settle was always destined to play field hockey. After four remarkable years playing for FHS many teams were looking for Settle to play for them. In the end Settle chose Virginia Wesleyan University and is majoring in biology. Settle has many goals for her college career. She hopes to have a successful four years playing field hockey and enjoy college in general. Settle is looking forward to her college experience saying what she's most excited for is “playing with the team and creating bonds. [And what's keeping her going is] the passion and love for the game.”
Austin Shorts
Attending Emory Henry and majoring in sports management and playing tennis Austin Shorts is ready to take on college. His overall goal is to make it professionally playing tennis. His favorite thing about playing is the team environment and wanting to win his matches. He keeps returning to tennis saying “My passion for it [is] just getting up and playing the game.”
Brooke Shifflett
Attending Roanoke college, playing volleyball and majoring in disabilities studies, Brooke Shifflett is ready to “branch out of my comfort zone.” After her four years Shifflett hopes to become an occupational therapist. Ready to take on college volleyball, Shifflett says she's ready to “work with girls that want to play and work hard.” Her love for volleyball has been with her for a while. “Ever since I've touched a ball I fell in love with it and I've always been attached to it ,it's my safe space.” She stated.
Joel Williams
Well known around FHS Joel Williams is ready to take on Radford University with a major in political science. He will also be competing for their cross country and track team. He says one of his goals is “to be able to compete at a higher level and push myself to better my times because I know I'm capable of big things.” For Williams, track is a mental escape saying, “it helps me so much mentally and being able to feel free … you’re able to see people flourish in this sport." After his four years of undergrad Williams is looking ahead to going to a good graduate school to continue his pre-law track.
Adelmo Chavez
Known to many as Memo, Adelmo Chavez is ready to take on Ferrum College. It's always been a dream for Chavez to play on a college level. “I never gave up on myself and just kept working hard.” Chavez stated. One major goal Chavez has is transferring to play division 1 and eventually play professional soccer. In college though he is looking forward to trying new things and meeting new people.
Tomas Sanford
Attending Thiel College and playing football, Tomas Sanford or “Tom Tom” is excited to continue his football career. His goal is to help his team win the conference. His first feeling when he got in was excitement and with that he hopes to support his team and be the best in their conference.
Lily Retana-Rodriguez
Attending Mary Baldwin University, majoring in business and playing soccer, Lily Retana-Rodriguez is looking to college to find herself, saying, “Finding myself and who I truly am as an individual and just really finding myself.” Retana-Rodriguez has loved the game since middle school saying “ It just helps balance me out.” She is ready to meet her new teammates and looks forward to meeting many new people.
Lydia Lovell
Attending East Tennessee State majoring in business and playing softball is Lydia Lovell, better known as “Biddy.” Lovell is ready to tackle the softball season. Her goal is to make all conference and meet her teammates. One thing that has kept her coming back to softball is, “I just really love the game so it's pushed me to keep going … [it's also fun when] we all go out and get food together.”
Ashley Murphy is going to college for softball and Lorelai Crandall is going for tennis. Both were absent the day of interviews .
