On Tuesday, January 21, the student body of Fauquier High School (FHS) gathered in the gymnasium during fourth period to watch a wrestling match between the FHS and Liberty High School (LHS) wrestling teams. The match brought a lot of school spirit to the students and faculty members
Michael Villalobos, also known as “Coach Kitten” by the wrestlers, is the head coach of the wrestling team this season. Most of the team’s wrestlers participated in this event, including those of all grades. All the wrestlers did their best throughout the match; each of them demonstrated to students and faculty their strength, courage and can-do attitude.
On the sidelines of the match, FHS’s sports med class (taught by Garrett Farmerie) was ready to assist with the occasional bloody nose or broken bone. The medical support on the sidelines proved valuable to all athletes present, particularly after an elbow injury sustained on the mat during a match.
During the rally, there was a quick break to announce to the crowd that senior Brian Bland has won 100 matches over his many years of wrestling for FHS. A poster of Bland, featuring his wrestling over the years, was displayed, along with a mini championship belt. Bland is making a wonderful impact on the wrestling team with his energetic attitude and strength. FHS is very proud of what Bland has and will accomplish during his wrestling career at FHS.
The student body was very encouraging, expressing their excitement and support for the wrestlers throughout the match, shouting with passion while they watched with anticipation. With cheers from the crowd, the FHS wrestling team achieved several accomplishments and ended with a 59-16 win, bringing the crowd into a frenzy of excitement.
The rally was a fun experience for everyone. The staff were excited on the sidelines, watching some of the students they had taught wrestle for their own school. The students were very encouraging to the wrestlers, with their cheers and handmade signs in the crowd bringing the wrestlers joy. The wrestlers did a fantastic job, not only winning most of their matches but also demonstrating good sportsmanship to the other team.
