Fauquier High School (FHS) welcomes a new Library Assistant, CJ Cox. After years in government work, Cox decided to reignite his love for teaching and music, becoming a percussion instructor at Liberty High School and now an assistant librarian at FHS.
Coming from Stafford, Fauquier County is a big change. “There’s a huge dynamic change from what I’m used to…[Fauquier] is just a nice environment altogether,” Cox stated. Despite the change in scenery, Cox appreciates the new dynamic of Fauquier County.
As well as Cox’s passion for education, the reason Cox became a member of the library was to become a better reader; “I ironically, am looking to round myself in my weaker areas. I am not considered a strong reader. So I was like, what’s a better environment than a library to build on my reading?” Cox says. This unique approach to becoming a librarian is accompanied by a love for poetry and Cox always keeps an Edgar Allen Poe book handy. As well as poetry, Cox enjoys cooking, writing, music and video games.
Cox’s goal of working at FHS is to be more relatable to students, providing a more comfortable environment for people who don’t feel as confident in certain subjects. “I want to be able to find ways where I can help kinda have people overcome those challenges…I want to be more relatable, and I find that the more we can actually connect, it’s probably easier for you guys to wanna approach us,” Cox says. This mindset is the reason behind coming to work in the library, but it is just a stepping stone until Cox can get a full-time teaching job. If you get a chance to visit the library, make sure to give a warm welcome to Cox.
