Fauquier High School (FHS) is lucky to have two new librarians this year. Katelynn Verrill, a mother of two, wanted to get back into the library to enjoy her passion for reading, and Kathryn Davis, a book lover who loves to read everywhere, even when she’s traveling to different countries. This will be Verrill and Davis’ first year in FHS.
Verrill and Davis previously worked together and it “feels great” to be working with each other again. They both didn’t know they were going to be in the same library again. “It was a pleasant surprise,” Davis said.
Before coming back, Verrill was previously a funeral worker. She chose to work there because she had always wanted to be a Funeral Director. But she came back to the library because she thought that her past environment was too “gloomy” for her two young children because the “emotional aspect of it, was depressing in a way.” Verrill is very glad to be back in the library and is happy to finally get back into reading fantasy books.
Davis has been working in K-8th schools for 11 years but never worked in a high school. Davis stated, “[the] difference between high school and middle school is the maturity level.” She explained when students finally reach high school level, they start caring more about their school work and their life after high school.
Other than being a librarian, Verrill loves to be with friends and family, often visiting museums and galleries with her loved ones. When she’s alone, she loves to read suspense novels. In Davis’ free time, she loves to travel, try new foods and stay indoors reading a good book.
Verrill and Davis are trying to reach their goal of making the library a “safe space” to study, read and work on projects. They have already started their plan by cutting the amount of students that are able to visit during AE. They also plan on adding much more. Being a librarian is a challenging job, but so far Verrill and Davis are doing a fantastic job!
