Shaun Patrick [Pat] Frazer: football announcer, coach, and hard-working educator is approaching 30 years in the school system and is a well-rounded addition to the Fauquier English department. Having taught at Central Middle School, Taylor Middle School, Liberty High School (LHS), and Fauquier High School (FHS), several of which he has attended himself, he feels that his presence at the schools he taught at was a result of his own intentions and efforts. In fact, Frazer states that Bradley Elementary School was the “only place that [he] taught, but hadn’t attended.”
One trait that students will immediately recognize about Frazer is that his networking skills are unmatched. Living in Fauquier County for the past 46 years, he has created close ties with the community around him by investing his time in teaching, announcing, and participating in extracurriculars. After teaching at Liberty for a whopping two decades, Frazer states that the transfer from LHS was difficult, parting from students and colleagues, he explains that having previous connections with FHS has “made [the transfer] a lot…easier.” In addition, he states how much he “loves the kids…[and]…how welcoming the staff…and English department [is].” Frazer is excited to continue building connections with students and faculty.
Frazer has trinkets from past experiences plastered all over his classroom walls, almost as if it were a scrapbook. He uses this to create a more personalized undertone for his classroom; by sharing pieces of his past with his students, whether his own hobbies or his past, Frazer stated, “I take pride in everything I do.” The sentimental decor in his classroom, particularly highlights this ideal. Frazer describes, “[a] drawing that a student made of [him] eight years ago,” and a boy’s basketball banner from his “team when [Frazer] graduated high school”, that hold sentimental value for him.
Frazer is prepared to make a difference in FHS, whether that’s to “get public speaking back into Fauquier as a core class” or to light up the atmosphere of the football games, Frazer expresses that he doesn’t want “a lot of dead air.” Frazer was formally an announcer at LHS for 10 years and continues to work for a Minor League Baseball Stadium as an announcer, so he plans to “bring some of that flavor to Fauquier, and make it fun.” He might just be the sprinkle of joy that FHS needs.
In these upcoming years at FHS, he plans to continue fulfilling his teaching philosophy: building relationships and a genuine love of learning. In all of his experience, he has learned that the best way to fully encapsulate a topic is to relate it to students while “keeping it fun,” and this is exactly what he exhibits in his class. Frazer states, “English is great. You can connect anything we do with our lives.”
If students want to be like Frazer, he suggests to “be more active,” whether it is going to “concerts [or] watching movies.” Some movie and show recommendations, from Frazer include the infamous Ted Lasso, Stranger Things, and Cobra Kai. Frazer states he loves horror movies, Scream being his favorite franchise.
Having a passion for teaching is hard to come by, but Frazer isn’t a cookie-cutter stereotype; he is nothing short of a visionary and is showing immense enthusiasm to work at FHS. His unique contributions, whether in the classroom or on Kelican field, will help define what it means to be a Falcon. With more admirable teachers like Frazer, it can be assumed that FHS has a bright future ahead. So, next time stop by his classroom [Room 324], and be sure to extend this warm welcome and ask him about FunkoPops!
