Sam Oravec is a former long-term sub who is now teaching statistics and geometry. Oravec began teaching to “give back to the community, practice classroom management, and make [himself] a better coach.” Oravec notes that it’s a good career move to have teaching in his portfolio and skill set.
Oravec grew up in Warrenton and was raised in the Fauquier County school system and graduated from FHS in 2017. Choosing math as a subject was the perfect option for Oravec, as it was his first choice. “…the subject I was most interested in was actually math, I feel like math is fun to teach…” Oravec mentions that math is the subject most suited for him, “[math] gives me a chance to connect with other people…”
Along with teaching, Oravec coaches track and field here at FHS. “I love coaching, that’s my primary interest,” says Oravec. For two years, Oravec has been coaching track and field, with 2024 being his third year. “Coaching was my primary way of giving back to the school, the community, and the sport of track and field as a whole,” says Oravec.
Along with coaching, Oravec is a licensed massage therapist and loves to travel. If possible, he would travel every weekend. “I would really like to go to Central America and South Africa,” says Oravec. Oravec would like to learn more about the cultures and systems of Central America and South Africa “so that I can learn more about how the world functions as a whole.”
