Sandra Albertson is a new math teacher at FHS who came from Taylor Middle School. She has been teaching here for only a few weeks but loves it already.
The reason why Albertson thinks teaching high school is better than teaching middle school is that the students are older, their behavior is not as bad and they care more about their grades. These things are really important to her. “I like students and I like teaching,” Albertson says. “My students think I’m silly,” she also states. Albertson tries to joke with the students and encourage them. “If I see you trying, I will continuously help you, I don’t care how many times you get it wrong, and how many times I have to say it over and over again,” she says. It seems like the students like this kind of teaching, and it works for them because students love Albertson.
Albertson is also a grandma. She has three kids, all of whom are married and have their own children. She loves spending time with them and says, “I have a family and I’m so proud of them!” Albertson likes to hike, work around the yard and scuba dive!
Albertson has been living in this area for her whole life, except for the four years she was in the Air Force. Besides teaching, she’s a big fan of the military. She went into the military right after high school and absolutely loved it. She says that every single person should join, “I always recommend going to the military right after high school, especially if you don’t know what you want to do.” She thinks it’s a good idea because being in the military gives you training and education and more time to figure out what you want to do “It allows you to grow up while you’re still protected,” mentions Albertson.
If you ask Anderson why kids should sign up for her class, you get an easy answer, “Because it’s MATH. Math is awesome! I love math!”
