FHS offers many engaging classes, one of which is Floral Design ll, where students spend their time doing flower arrangements and work with different types of plants. Floral Design l needs to be taken first in order to take Floral Design ll. The engaging and fast-paced class is almost like a job, because students are so busy making arrangements for people. There are many benefits to the class, including learning a new skill that can later be used in the future, and students even have the opportunity to earn money for themselves through the class.

The class is very likable and always has interested students.. Some might question whether or not they would enjoy arranging flowers, especially if they have never done something like that before, though the class remains popular among students. “I love the class…It teaches you a skill you won’t forget. You need flowers to make decorations for your own wedding or your birthday party…you know how to make it and you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars for something you can make yourself,” said senior Lauren Lowenbach.

The Floral Design class is in charge of many jobs for the school. Just recently, they sold flowers for Valentine’s Day. Senior Claire Scaring said, “It was good. I think we made 2500 dollars off of that.” Scaring commented on where the profits go, saying, “It goes into our horticultural bank account, and then we put that money into buying extra flowers or buying any wholesale things we need…we also get paid, so part of that goes to us, and we get paid seven dollars.” The class stays busy because there are certain events where the flower boutiques or arrangements need to be made in time.

During Valentines Day, Mothers Day and prom the Floral Design class gets busy, and the students need to be on their toes. Mothers Day is where it can get pretty worked up. Senior Allison Reed said, “We have Mothers Day coming up and that’s mostly a huge get-together that we all do…We do bouquets and we do table arrangements and all different types of things.” Prom is also an event where the Floral Design ll class gets to work. Scaring said, “we make corsages and boutonnieres…We are still working on our organization and we will have flyers coming out.. Floral Design ll is definitely recommended for those who are interested in learning a new skill, interested in making some extra money, or want an overall unique class experience.
