FHS Senior Zoe Corboy has recently been honored to represent her Wawa district at the Goosejam event in Richmond, VA. “It’s not common for people to get an award like this, so it felt pretty good to be the one representing my store,” Corboy stated. It means a lot to Corboy that she was able to receive this award and that she was able to represent her district at Goosejam.
Corboy was able to receive the award while also having to balance school and sports along the way, saying, “It can definitely be stressful … but in the meantime, it’s still fun to be a part of different activities, and it’s nice to have managers that are flexible with your schedule.” Corboy has been working at her Wawa for only about a year and a half, yet her store has already given her a manager position, and the chance to represent them in Richmond. “A hard work ethic and doing the right thing” are what Corboy attributes to getting her into this position even though she is just a high school student.
Working at Wawa has also helped build Corboy as a person by helping her with communication skills, being more responsible and working with others. “I get to experience that every time I work,” Corboy said. Corboy is thankful that she has gotten to work at Wawa, and learn these skills that will help her throughout her life. Corboy believes Wawa is a great job for FHS students, “I would definitely recommend it as a first job because of how close it is to the school … It’s great, especially for kids who don’t have cars.”
Corboy has some plans for what she might like to do after she graduates high school. She plans to definitely go to college with a major in nursing. Corboy has also talked about possibly wanting to be a realtor. Both nursing and being a realtor will require responsibility and good communication skills, which Corboy has already earned from her time at Wawa.
Corboy has a very bright future ahead of her and has been given a head start within the working world.
