There are so many interesting classes and programs offered here at FHS, and one that is truly ‘shocking’ in how awesome it is, is the electricity class, taught by George Clarke. Clarke retired from working at a large electrical firm before becoming the electricity teacher at FHS. “When I found out that the school did not have a teacher for the seniors I decided to take the job and go ahead and teach them after I retired,” Clarke said.

The electricity class covers many topics throughout the course. Clarke said, “We do residential electricity, and we cover switching from multiple locations all the way to wiring house panels. We do everything that you would see inside of a residential unit.”

Students also enjoy everything that is offered in this class. “My favorite part about the class is that you don’t have to sit down. You get to go out to the shop and work with your hands, and you get to actually see what you’re thinking about and not just write it on paper,” said senior Carson Wooten. Senior Valeria Villarreal explained, “My favorite part about this class is the community. Everyone is really nice, and we all make jokes. It’s definitely a bonding activity because we’re all out in the lab together.”

Students can also receive an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certification from this class. “At the beginning of the course you take the 10 hour OSHA certification course and you get your OSHA card and your first OSHA certification,” Wooten said. Classes like the electricity class can help students discover their passion for what they want to do in life. “If you’re looking into getting into the trades or maybe you don’t know if you want to go to college or do trades I think this is a pretty fun class and you learn a lot,” senior Alex Flores said.

The electricity class is one of the many interesting classes offered here at FHS that can help students find what they want to do as a career. The electricity class has proven to be an interesting, informative hands-on class that many students enjoy.
