Musician Spotlight: Nestor Jerinic
Freshman Nestor Jerinic plays viola at FHS. Jerinic states that he wouldn’t prefer to play another instrument, but if he could “[he] would also play violin, for the melody.” When asked what his favorite song was, Jerinic noted “Air on the G String,” which he played at Solo-Ensemble.
The first song Jerinic ever learned in the first days of middle school would be, “Lesson One in the first book of the essential elements” Jerinic says. Getting frustrated with playing the viola is an all-the-time thing for Jerinic. When asked in what way, Jerinic puts it as “when the viola isn’t viola-ing and the music isn’t music-ing.”
As for theme songs, Jerinic can play a bit of the Jurassic Park theme. “I have played parts of Harry Potter, Star Wars, Harry Potter Again, and probably some other things,” he said.
Doing music was not a choice for Jerinic. He had three choices whether to do Chorus, Band, or Orchestra in middle school, and he chose Orchestra. If he was given a choice to do either Chorus or Band instead of Orchestra, he said he would choose to do Chorus.
“Practice,” Jerinic says as advice given to anyone who would like to start playing viola, and of course, “listen to your teacher.”
