The freshly painted sun peaks over the rolling hills in Old Town’s newest mural.

While taking a stroll through Old Town, Warrenton, you might notice new flashy colors down 5 Culpeper Street. All thanks to local artist and FHS alumni, Taylor Boyd, our town looks beautifully brighter.

The new mural entitled, “You Are Home,” can be found on the side of the Britches Great Outdoors building while coming into town. Boyd’s brilliant use of color and style was perfectly designed to represent the rolling hills and Appalachian Mountains locals know and love.

After only six months of opening her art studio on Fifth Street, Boyd was asked by Experience Old Town Warrenton to paint the town’s next mural. Despite taking in helpful suggestions and direction from board members of the local merchant’s group, Boyd still felt that she had plenty of creative liberty when creating this project. In March of 2022, Boyd presented a rendered design and faced minimal critiques, meaning she could begin creating.

Although it took longer than originally anticipated, with the final line work completed, the mural turned out perfectly. There are plans to add a 3-D fox trotting out of the den featured in the left most archway hoping to attract more activity throughout the streets of Old Town. If you plan to visit this mural yourself, don’t forget to visit Boyd’s studio on 7 North Fifth Street.
