Amy Coney Barrett Confirmed in the Senate
The U.S. Senate confirmed judge Amy Coney Barrett as an associate justice in the U.S. Supreme Court tonight. The vote was 52-48. Barrett’s approval will also give the conservatives a 6-3 majority in the supreme court.
This nomination solidifies President Donald Trump’s third appointee to the high court. The confirmation occurs during a period of intense political climate with Election day on Nov. 3. This vote promises significant changes in federal courts for years to come. Varying issues are expected to be influenced by this conformation, including healthcare and the Affordable Care Act as well as abortion rights related to Roe v. Wade.
Tomorrow, Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the judicial oath to Barrett at the Supreme Court. Once administered under the oath, she may participate in the Court activities.
