FHS New Virtual Attendance Policy
Fauquier County Public Schools (FCPS) are required to take attendance for the 2020 – 2021 school year. Virtual learning has created various obstacles but the state and county have not changed their attendance policy. Attendance has to be taken on both synchronous and asynchronous days and students absent for 10 or more days are in jeopardy of failing the course.
The School Policy:
- On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, attendance will be taken at the start of class.
- On Wednesday, all students will be marked present.
Absences:
- Students not available to attend class because of internet problems will be given an opportunity to complete the work and be marked present
- If a student has a legitimate reason for being absent, the parent needs to notify the school and the absence will be marked excused.
On Asynchronous Days (Tuesday and Friday) teachers have flexibility to confirm attendance
- Options include
- Completing assignments Checking in with teachers
- Answering Questions of the Day
- Responding to discussion boards
- Attending discussion groups or virtual conferences
