Mount Vista’s Governors School (MVGS) applications are coming up. The prospective student site visit is Nov. 12, 2025. Going from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., students interested in attending are welcome to tour the area. MVGS services seven school districts, holding 13 high schools. Gifted students wanting to further their education and expand their knowledge are encouraged to apply.
Classes are rigorous, as the curriculum is advanced. Tenth graders are offered Precalculus, Research I (scientific), Humanities (english 10) and Collegiate Chemistry. Ninth graders are required to have passed Geometry and Biolgogy. Upperclassmen are provided many other classes to take, all in the means of science, technology and math. Engaging in interactive studies, these classes will provide students with challenges that help them grow and become critical thinkers.
MVGS’s faculty consist of intelligent and advanced professors that create a supportive group of learners. Many of them have advanced degrees and professional backgrounds. These teachers help provide a hands-on learning environment that engages students to use critical thinking.
Their goal is to teach gifted learners so that students can reach their full potential in every field. MVGS is offered at Laurel Ridge Community College, so the daily commute isn’t difficult. It is easy to reach out to the staff as many local administrators are easily accessible.
The application process can be stressful for many students. As there are limited spots for students to get accepted. MVGS’s admission faculty looks over every applicant's transcript, including absences, GPA and test scores. Teacher recommendations are beneficial and can boost any student’s chance of getting in. An essay prompt is required and scrutinized in an unprejudiced way. The student’s name and school is removed from the essay to support a completely unbiased process.
Graduation wise, 99 percent of MVGS’s alumni pursue post graduate endeavors. Many graduates attend VA universities or out of state intuitions. A great deal of alumni have been accepted into Ivy league schools, such as Harvard and Princeton. Students gain many opportunities for scholarships. For those aiming for more pristine colleges/universities, Governors School can be a favorable option.
