On April 9, the Fauquier County School Board announced Dr. David Ferguson as the new principal at FHS. He is the principal at Rappahannock High School in Richmond County, but throughout the years he has served many roles in the teaching industry. With over a decade of experience he has had roles as various sports coaches, special education teaching, assistant principal as well as the role he serves now. In a Fauquier Now article, he shared, ‘“Having the students involved in the interview process was a game-changer in my decision to accept the position at FHS…the way that group of students spoke inspired me,” said Ferguson. Coming to step up to the role of the school’s former principal Kraig Kelican is quite a substantial deal. However, the fact that students played an active role in the hiring process shows hope that Ferguson is just the person everyone is looking for to take charge. Many people have good things to say about how good of a leader Ferguson is. ‘“[Ferguson’s] background, experience, leadership philosophy and dedication to student success make him an invaluable addition to our school community,” Dr. Major Warner, Fauquier County Public Schools’ superintendent, told FauquierNow. He will begin his role as principal on July 1 of this year.
