Everyday
I want to be proud of my country
A land for all to thrive
But everyday I am told I am a virus
That I don’t deserve to be alive
I want to be proud of my country
All red, white and blue
But all I see is violence
I only see red and gunshot wounds
I want to be proud of my country
And live among the free
But how can I do that
When yellow and disease is all they see
I want to be proud of my country
A place of equality
But some people have bad days
And justify brutality
I want to be proud of my country
The safest nation to be
But why should I be proud of a country
that isn’t proud of me
