The Anime Club gathers for their weekly meeting.

Anime Club is a club which is open to everyone. Whether you like anime or not, you are welcome.

Something that has recently been going on in the anime club would be Otaku Madness.

Otaku Madness has been held annually by the Anime Club since 2009. Similar to March Madness, there are different categories that the members of the Anime Club vote on. “We will vote them down until we get to our favorite, protagonist, antagonist, side character, mentor figure, classic anime, modern anime and videogame,” said Anime Club’s teacher sponsor, Kathleen Fowler.

“I have 3 things I want to vote for,” freshman William Coling said. “I feel like it’s a nice way to express other people’s opinions on certain anime or characters. The fact that it’s based off of March Madness kind of makes it a little unique,” said freshman Felix Melvin.

“It’s a very interactive activity, and it promotes club participation.” freshman, Logan Lane said. “It’s bringing the club together to vote on different things that can either help make new friends or might make you realize that some of your friends have different views on things,” Coling said. “My favorite part about it is hearing different thoughts on certain characters and anime that I like or don’t like,” said Melvin.

Reagan Skillman is the president of the anime club at FHS. Skillman joined the club because she is in love with anime and Japanese culture. Mrs. Fowler is the Anime Club’s sponsor. “Having Mrs. Fowler at the school definitely helped because she’s definitely well-versed in Japanese culture,” Skillman noted.

Since it’s an anime club, there are many commonly liked anime. “Commonly liked. It’d probably be… ‘Jojo’s Bizzare Adventures’, because everyone loves it for the memes,” Skillman replies, yet she also notes that mainstream anime is something people in the club enjoy, such as “SpyxFamily.”

“We are very accepting of all kinds,” Skillman said. The club meets at Kathleen Fowler’s room 602 in the cube. They meet every Friday after school until 4 p.m.
