Introduction to Animal Systems students walk dogs around campus.

The intro to animal system class at FHS is a whole lot of fun. It’s an elective class where students get to interact with all kinds of different animals. The intro to animal systems class is one of the classes that is offered to students in the first year of highschool. It’s a fun way to get out of your comfort zone and somewhere where you can learn about animals and farming techniques.

It seems that many of the students enjoy getting to spend time with the animals. Freshman Ava Colley said, “My favorite thing is being able to walk the dogs and being able to socialize with the animals at the beginning of every class.” Freshman Yosimar Guttierez agrees with Colley’s statement, saying, “My favorite thing about this class is when I get to spend time with the baby chickens, it’s cool to watch how fast they grow. I also love to feed the chickens.” The students all seem to recommend this class to others. Guttierez explained, “I highly recommend other students to take this class especially if they are into farming, agriculture and animals.”

The intro to animal systems class teaches students all about farm life and students learn how different animals work. Guttierez said, “We learn about the different systems and complexes in animals. We also learn about all the different body parts of pigs, horses and goats.” Colley mentioned how they also learn about the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program, saying, “They (FFA) go on field trips and talk to us about the trips.” Freshman Emily Galvez commented on the variety of education and activities done through FFA, saying, “They teach you all about different careers that have to do with agriculture and talk to us about fun field trips.”

Galvez took the intro to animal systems class last term and mentioned how much she enjoyed it. “My favorite thing was working with the dogs. My favorite dog was Rosy. I loved going outside and getting to take care of the geese and chickens.” Galvez mentioned how her only lesson from this class was dealing with the bad weather. She said, “I don’t think there were any hard tasks in this class. The only bad thing was going out in the cold weather, especially since I took it last semester and it was winter.”

This class seems like the perfect fit for anyone who is a big animal lover and enjoys spending time outside. You get to go outside, not only to spend time with friends, but also animals.
