Alex sings for his audience.

Alex G is an underrated singer who blew up on Tiktok for his songs “Mary”, “Sarah” and “I Wait For You”. He makes music for the alternative/indie genres and has 6.5M monthly listeners on Spotify.

“Trick” is one of his albums that was released in 2012, which includes “Mary” and “Sarah”. “Easy” is another album released in 2011, which includes “I Wait For You”.

Alex is a heart touching artist who does a phenomenal job at making his listeners really feel the emotion he’s putting into his music. He’s mastered the ability to transfer any feelings into his listeners hearts, whether that’s anger, sadness or amusement, which is a difficult thing to accomplish. Since he is 30 years of age, he has experienced lots of bumpy roads in life, which he uses to his advantage when trying to connect to his viewers.

“I Wait For You” is one of his most popular songs that blew up on Tiktok due to the unique voice he uses mixed with the catchy beat. The song is about three people who are waiting for someone to come into their lives and spark their life up. The first individual is seen selling pills to girls. Alex encourages him not to since it can lead him down a dark and sketchy road, but he claims “nothing compares to the fever dream”, which is a quote that can hit hard on some people. They can be caught up in doing negative activities because of the feeling they get which is very depressing but very real.

The second individual is a girl who gets abused by her boyfriend, so she’s fallen into a rhythm with his manipulativeness. Songs that include themes like this can be a comfort for people who do or have gone through stuff like it, which could contribute to a portion of Alex’s audience. The boyfriend tells her that “everything ends when you reach that thrill”, which symbolizes that no matter what you do and how good that ‘high’ is, it’s gonna end and what comes after is never worth it.

At the end of the song he repeats “it’s just one more reason to control myself” a couple of times, which represents that he is the third individual. Shortly before that, he exclaims that he wants his ‘baby’ to pretend while he’s on that ‘high’ that everything he says he means. So when it slowly dissipates, everything will be alright. Unlike the others in the song, he finds the person he was looking for. Him expressing that it’s just one more reason to control himself is him showing that this person is saving him even though it may not be obvious. His listeners deeply relate to this since everyone in their lives has a person who calms them and brings them back to their true selves.

While people can listen to music to hype themselves up, sometimes all you need is a sad, relatable song, which Alex G can always provide.
