“Daredevil: Born Again” was released on March 4, 2025, on Disney+ as a continuation of the original “Daredevil” series released in 2015. The first “Daredevil” comic came from Stan Lee back in 1964, and there have been many iterations of this since. Episode one of the first series of this psychological thriller starts with a blind Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, rejecting his vigilante persona of being the Daredevil. Murdock decides it is best to step away from his Daredevil role and continue to build his law firm. A year later, Murdock has a profound loss, and the writer incorporates this as a pivotal point in his life to seek justice. Murdock has grown more into the spotlight of the public with the success of his law firm defending vigilantes. The addition of this new series brought back the memories of how good the first show was and made it even better 10 years later with better production and realism.
The election of a new mayor in New York is brewing. The winner of the election is Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, who was a past nemesis by the name of King Pin. Although only three episodes are out at the moment, the plot is just a back-and-forth between conflicts of both Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock setting aside their criminal and vigilante history, but “Good people can still do bad things,” said Wilson Fisk when addressing the vigilante problem.
Cox does an outstanding job with his character’s acting as a blind man, although the fighting scenes are a bit unrealistic. Murdoch struggles in a fight with two police officers and wins. He is a blind man in unfamiliar surroundings but manages to beat them both. Surprisingly, after the fight, he knows precisely where his glasses end up, walks up to them and picks them up. He is also able to hit his aggressors with precision and agility, which seems impossible with his disability.
Overall, the show is pretty dark, with many subtle references to other characters in the background. Even during the daytime, the office spaces seem drab and dull. The lighting is pristine, making the bustling city of New York look realistic. The music, along with the show’s introduction, is memorable. Stan Lee’s first iteration of Daredevil was the beginning of many other Daredevil adventures. This Marvel production does not disappoint and is as good, if not better, than the Netflix Daredevil series from 2015-2018. After watching the first episode, viewers will be hooked.
