“Iron Lung” is a movie based on the hit indie video game of the same name, which was heavily popularized by YouTuber Markiplier’s videos. The movie was released on Jan. 30, 2026, and it follows a convict named Simon (played by Markiplier). Simon is in a submarine and goes down into an ocean of blood, but he isn’t alone. The entire movie features a small cast and takes place on the submarine. Despite it being in such a small space, the movie manages to make the most out of it.
The movie relies heavily on suspense, but it can be very boring at times. “Iron Lung” also isn’t very scary. A majority of the movie is just the characters pressing buttons on the submarine to either reach the sample or move around the sea. The film doesn’t have much gore, aside from the large amounts of blood in the sea.
The concept of “Iron Lung” is great, but it would work better as a short film, since the movie runs just barely over two hours. Despite this, “Iron Lung” still manages to tell a deep story set in this post-apocalyptic world.
Markiplier’s acting is what saves the movie. There is pain in his voice, reflecting deep guilt and worry. The acting in this movie isn’t bland at all; it has some great performances from actors and voice actors like Troy Baker and Caroline Kaplan. While “Iron Lung” has a limited cast of only seven actors, they all play a very special role, and the voice-overs for the non-humanoid characters are nothing short of beautiful. The score for this movie is good as well, with a majority of the music fitting the scene.
“Iron Lung” does manage to be creepy, but it can easily become uninteresting. The movie has lots of shock value, yet it is slow and overly drawn out. Towards the end, the film becomes disturbing within seconds.
