Over the summer of 2026 Prime Video is releasing many book adaptations with many more green lit and ready to start casting.
“Off Campus” by Elle Kennedy has been a very highly anticipated adaptation. All eight episodes dropped May 13, 2026 with more casting coming and season two ready to film. The series is about a group of college hockey players and follows them on the journey navigating school, hockey and relationships. Each player has their own book which will be different seasons. “Tell Me Softly” by Mercades Ron is ready to release its next movie in June. The movie will follow two brothers and their journey after a parents death and a battle over the girl next door. Carley Fortune’s “Every Summer After" has been adapted into “Every Year After,” which will premiere all eight episodes on June 10, 2026. Two lifelong friends explore the enduring question, what if your first love was destined to be your soulmate? Also, “My Fault, London” set to come out on June 17, 2026, is an English adaptation of the series “My Fault” by Mercades Ron. The movie will pick up after the explosive ending of the first movie, exploring deeper secrets, jealousy and the lengths the characters will go to in order to hold onto their love.
“Maxton Hall,” based on the trilogy “Save Me” by Mona Kasten, is set to release its newest season sometime in 2026. The series is about an ambitious scholarship student who butts heads with an arrogant, wealthy heir after accidentally stumbling upon an explosive family secret. “The Love Hypothesis,” a popular romance novel by Ali Hazelwood, is a movie being released also sometime in the summer of 2026. The book is about a fake relationship between PhD candidate Olive Smith and a notoriously difficult professor, Adam Carlsen, at Stanford University. “We Were Liars," by E. Lockhart, getting an additional series focusing on the second book in the series “Family of Liars.” The cast has been slowly announced with readers very happy with the selections so far. It will follow Carrie family's deep-seated secrets and toxic dynamics set in 1987, focusing on her relationships with her sisters and the shocking events that lead to the tragedies in the original book.
"Boys of Tommen" by Chloe Walsh has faced some backlash from fans after its green light and main cast was announced. Fans are afraid the show will not bring the plot to justice as it is focused on very heavy topics. The book is set in a fictional Irish private school, Tommen College, following the lives of rugby players and their friends as they navigate adolescence, love, and trauma. When the cast dropped on May 15th, many fans were disappointed by the actors and failed to see how they would fit the roles of their respective characters.
In contrast, "Fourth Wing" by Rebbecca Yarros is a highly recommended ongoing book series that is set to begin tv casting over the summer. Navigating deadly challenges, such as training, combat, and the threat of being killed by other cadets, all while dealing with her mother's harsh command and a complicated and forbidden relationship, the book follows fragile Violet Sorrengail through her challenges at Basgiaith. Fans of “Fourth Wing” are very excited as Michal B. Jordan is one of the producers, and the author, Rebbecca Yarros, will be critiquing all aspects of the show. All of these examples are just a few of the books being adapted into movies or television shows on Prime Video.
Books have always been adapted for screens, such as the very popular “Harry Potter” series and the “Hunger Games” series, but recently there has been a rise in the amount of adaptations. With the growth of social media and booktok more books are becoming popular. This increase in popularity and the hype surrounding the books on social media creates the perfect fanbase to land a tv show or movie.
These fanbases then take the show and create edits, share videos of themselves and their favorite scenes and much more. These videos gain a lot of traction and allow people who haven't read the books to become interested in the show or movie. This is especially present in the very popular movie “Project Hail Mary,” which was released to theaters March 20. Fans of the book shared their excitement online and other people who didn't read or even know about the book decided to watch it.
Book to movie adaptations will continue to grow as directors run out of new ideas for a plot and books sit on the shelves with a ready fan base. These adaptations aren't easy though. Fans expect a perfect cast and minimal changes. But in order to make these books ready for the screen changes have to be made. Sometimes these changes bring a positive reaction from the readers while other changes usually bring a negative reaction.
Books will continue to become movies and shows, coming to life on the screens for readers. With the right fanbase these adaptations become well loved and help the books and authors grow and become even more loved.
