Although summer has come to a close, memories of the wind blowing through your hair and screaming songs with your friends in the car will come again. To take you back to summer for a second, imagine the relaxation and absolute bliss you feel sitting by the pool or laying out on the beach. You may enjoy soaking in the sun with just the song of nature playing, or maybe you have a book in your lap with a nice cold glass of lemonade by your side. Before you think of leaving your speaker inside because no song could ever satisfy you in this scenario, check out the band “Summer Salt”. Summer Salt was created by Matt Terry and Phillip Williams who started their band in Austin, Texas. Their music is considered a mix of surf rock and indie pop, which makes them the perfect songs for the summertime.
Despite their Texan roots, the tone of their songs are very Hawaiian. Very much inspired by “The Beach Boys” as well as “The Beatles,” “Summer Salt” is known for their calming vocals and melodic guitar riffs. It puts a twist on 60s and 70s music by adding a more modern-day touch to their songs.
Summer Salt has six released albums: “Campanita,” “The Juniper Song Book,” “Sequoia Moon,” “Favorite Holiday Vol. 1,” “Driving to Hawaii” and “Happy Camper” (2016), their most successful albums. Not only are their album names perfect examples of the music they produce, so are the titles of their songs.
“Driving to Hawaii” and “Rockaway” are great examples of how their style of music varies. “Driving to Hawaii” has a more relaxed melody opening the song with their famous guitar riffs and their soothing vocals. “Rockaway” introduces more snare, a higher tempo and electric guitar.
So next time you’re in that perfect summer scenario aimlessly scrolling through your playlists, give “Summer Salt” a listen.
