The academic team has had a successful season this year. They have done well at their competitions and recently went on a TV show called ¨It’s Academic.¨ The students who participated in this show were seniors Jake Woodside, Charlotte Funkhouser, alternate Dean Rose and team captain David Achter. The team went on TV against two teams and the host asked a variety of questions across different topics. The team ended up getting second place. They go on this show each year, and it was an exciting experience for everyone. Funkhouser has been the longest-serving member of the team, a member since 9th grade. The team has competitions about once a week, and they placed third at regionals, held Feb. 10. As their season is technically over now, they are just practicing so they will be prepared for regionals.

Members of all grades participate in the academic team. Junior Amy Infante, who started when she was a freshman, said, ¨I really like it, I learn a lot more than I would in my normal classes.¨ Infante goes to competitions with the team and will play on a board of four against other schools. Infante said, ¨I plan on doing it next year and I am looking forward to it.¨ The team continues practice all year round even after their season is over so they can gain extra knowledge and become more prepared for the year to come. Funkhouser said, ¨Even if you don´t think you know much, you’re bound to know something if you keep trying. Either way you will have a great time.¨
