FISH is Dedicated to Serving the Community

Fauquier FISH is an organization in Fauquier County that strives to cut down the poverty percentage and provide food to those in need. They go around to schools, assisted living homes, farmers’ markets and more, bringing food and supplies that are needed. For example, there was a food drive at FHS and other Fauquier County Public schools in honor of the PATH Foundation’s ‘Let’s Volunteer’ Month. They do drives and fundraisers like this often, always trying to find a way to support our members of the community who are in need.

A big program Fauquier FISH does is the Weekend Power Pack Program. They distribute a pack of food to students in the program at the end of each week as well as for all school holidays, every break and all three-day weekends. Even summer food assistance is available because they want to contribute all year round. The packs are filled with healthy, nutritious, non-perishable food. It is an easy program to join, as they have no qualifications to participate and enrollment information can be obtained from your students’ counselor. Currently, 6.5 percent of Fauquier County lives in poverty and this is just one of the many amazing ways that Fauquier FISH strives to make this percentage go down.

Not only do they have food programs for students, but they also have a Book Bag and Supplies program to provide further help. At the beginning of the 23-24 school year, they distributed over 1,100 backpacks filled with supplies. You can register on their website. They also take donations for this program from anyone who wants to help out as well as allowing you to sponsor a child in need.
