After four years at FHS, senior Kareem Larnhajaf has become a pillar of our community through being an Eagle Scout, an active member of National Honor Society, and having a charismatic personality. Beyond his extensive community contributions, he’s also an undefeated boxer, an avid photographer and a poet.
Larnhajaf’s interests have been sparked and expanded by many of the classes here at FHS, such as English, where he was recently introduced to poetry. Larnhajaf describes poetry as “a wonderful art form [and] a really good way to reflect on the world.” He also is very interested in history, with his favorite class being African American Studies which he is currently taking.
Larnhajaf also has a diverse array of personal interests, with boxing being the most prominent. He has had 21 amateur fights so far, of which he won 20 and had 1 draw. He was first interested in the sport five years ago after he watched a boxing movie starring Robert Ryan titled “The Situp.” Larnhajaf recounts that after seeing this he thought, “‘Hey that looks pretty cool.’ So I got into [boxing], and I’ve loved it ever since.” Larnhajaf not only sees that film as a huge inspiration, but also Robert Ryan and his life as a huge inspiration.
Larnhajaf also sees teachers as a major inspiration, especially since he plans to be a teacher. He explained, “Teachers make such a strong impact on our lives,” adding that he felt they aren’t acknowledged enough. He feels lucky to have such a good education system that he sees as unique to Fauquier County.
Upon graduation from high school, he plans to attend Laurel Ridge Community College. After a couple of years there, he would like to transfer to a four-year education at George Mason University where he will study to become a teacher of nutrition, life-fitness or physical education. With his background in boxing, he would like to continue pursuing that passion by making it into a sport here at FHS.
Larnhajaf is an extremely well-rounded character whose contributions have been invaluable to our community. Not only has he already proved this, but his plans to eventually become a teacher show that he is truly dedicated to making a difference. His passion for teaching and the community will become extremely impactful as he looks to educate the next generation of students at FHS.
