The District Orchestra concert is coming Jan. 26 at Kettle Run High School. The FHS orchestra will be performing with players from other orchestras from across Virginia. 15 qualifiers from FHS were accepted into the District Orchestra following their auditions last semester. The students did orchestra with a purpose because of their passion for orchestra. Freshman C.J. Foreman says that he likes orchestra because of “the friendship with the other kids.”
The heat was on during selections for the event with all of the schools in Virginia auditioning for spots, and the candidates were feeling tons of different emotions before and after auditioning. Foreman said, ”I was a little bit stressed because I didn’t practice the music, but I was pretty confident.” Senior Derek Garcia said, “I was happy because I was first chair, which is the highest ranking.”
The FHS orchestra is confident about playing with other schools and districts during the event. Jerenic said, “We have a lot of strong people… so we will do pretty well.”
With confidence and motivation, the FHS orchestra will be able to become the best in the district in 2024. Hopes are high and emotions are strong. With the motivation of the students’ teacher Thomas Cummins and the other non-orchestra students cheering them on, they can and will win it all against the other schools in VA. Let us wish them all the best of luck, even though they don’t need it.
