When looking for a sweet treat, most people turn to cookies, cupcakes and other traditional sweets. An untraditional sweet treat that many don’t consider would be banana bread. According to Edspace America, banana bread possibly became popular during the Great Depression. Many people didn’t want to throw out overripe bananas, so instead they used them as a substitute for sugar because of how scarce common ingredients were. After the rise of banana bread, it has become a popular treat for many occasions.
Here is a good banana bread recipe for everyone to enjoy. It combines the delicious taste of bananas and the sweetness everyone is looking for in a sweet treat.
Ingredients needed:
1 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1 tsp of baking soda
2 eggs
1 cup of mashed ripe bananas (two to three medium-sized bananas)
1/2 cup of vegetable oil
1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon of buttermilk
1 tsp of vanilla extract
1 cup of chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions:
Place two to three medium-sized bananas in a medium-sized bowl and smash them until mushy.
Set the mashed bananas aside and grab a large bowl to mix dry ingredients.
Add flour, sugar, baking soda and salt to the large bowl. Mix until everything is blended.
Put the large bowl to the side. Add the eggs, vegetable oil, buttermilk and vanilla to the banana bowl. Mix until blended. (If there’s no buttermilk on hand, add lemon juice to regular milk or use milk past the use-by date, but only by a few days.)
Pour banana mixture into a flour bowl and mix gently just until moistened.
Pro tip: mix a small amount of sugar and flour into a tiny bowl and “flour” the pan.
Pour mixture into a nine-inch by three-inch loaf pan.
Bake at 325 degrees for one hour and 20 minutes or until bread tests are done.
Cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pan to a wire rack.
Enjoy the delicious banana bread!
