FHS’ Distributive Education Club of America (DECA) team once again shows how impressive their skills are in the District Leadership Conference on Nov. 20, 2024, as they work to compete in the State Leadership Conference. After completing a set of comprehensive exams and multiple role plays, Izzy Breakirion, Rebecca Machado and Zoe Gariham placed first place; Cynthia Arellano Salazar and Scarlett Shaffer placed second and Meaghan Dysart-Moore and Dawson Stidham placed third. The next step: the State Leadership Conference at Va. Beach in March.
Moving on to the State Leadership Conference doesn’t come with ease for DECA students. DECA students are diligently working, dedicating time and effort to these competitions. “To prepare for their events, students dedicated significant time studying for a 100-question exam specific to their competition. …Students practiced multiple role-plays with a DECA advisor to familiarize themselves with the format, explain performance indicators, develop strong presentation skills and enhance their problem-solving abilities,” stated DECA advisor Tiffany Tankut.
These students and their great achievements serve as role models for students who are interested in joining DECA. “These achievements demonstrate the value of DECA in preparing future leaders and help build support for the program,” said Tankut. With 4,000 other students from across the state, FHS students will use their hard work and dedication to strive toward the national level. “ Those who achieve a Top 8 ranking in their event advance to the National DECA competition,” stated Tankut.
