Should Christmas trees really be set up the second Halloween ends, or should the decorations be delayed until Dec.? The annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a tradition since 1924, has Christmas songs, floats and other performances, barely giving the Thanksgiving holiday any showtime.
There are people out there who hang lights up once Nov. comes around, which is crazy. Thanksgiving hasn’t had its time to shine. There is no reason the colorful lights should come before a good Thanksgiving meal. While decorating for Christmas in Nov. is not done frequently, it has been done too many times to be acceptable.
Even grocery and department stores such as Michael’s or Walmart put Christmas items next to Turkeys and decorations in Nov.. Candy canes next to stuffing is unreasonable. It’s Nov.; let Thanksgiving pass before Mariah Carey ‘defrosts.’ It’s absolutely irritating hearing Christmas tunes in department stores during Nov.. It’s almost understandable, considering it’s economically reasonable. Still, it gives the holiday two to three months of showtime compared to other holidays that do not even get a month so that the money can roll in sooner.
Do people even acknowledge Thanksgiving anymore? At least Halloween gets some recognition during Oct., but once the first of Nov. hits, ornaments, lights, wreaths, blow-up Santa and Hallmark movies with the same plots are released. Thanksgiving is an important holiday and should be treated as such. Not to mention, there are other winter holidays in Dec., but Christmas gets the spotlight every year. The overrated holiday can wait until the first of Dec.. If Thanksgiving has to wait until Nov., then Christmas should wait until Dec..
