In Jan, 2026, Fauquier High School (FHS) marked a milestone with the official launch of its first-ever chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). Under the sponsorship of Graphic Design teacher, Jamell Newman, and Technology Education teacher, Ethan Angle, the new organization aims to support students involved in Career and Technical Education (CTE), offering both community engagement and academic distinction.
The launch by student founders, junior and president, Arabella Pointer, and junior and vice president, Isabella Seitz, marks a significant step for the school’s CTE programs. Designed to recognize students who excel in technical fields, the club focuses on leadership, service and academic achievement within CTE pathways.
For junior member Madeline Hanover, joining the new Honor Society felt like a natural extension of her interests in the technical education journey. When Newman introduced the concept for a new club, she saw it as “an extra opportunity to do volunteer hours in the community and also be part of another honor society.”
Students applied for membership last semester before being officially inducted at the chapter’s January initiation ceremony. Pointer, one of the founding members, emphasized the milestone's importance. “It’s the very first one that has ever been established at [FHS].”
Meetings are brief, organized and held after school. Officers track volunteer hours, discuss upcoming events and plan service projects. Many members are part of the Technology Student Association (TSA), with some meetings overlapping with TSA activities. Members “We discuss our plans and what we’re volunteering for,” Pointer stated. TSA competitions, technology-related events and service projects are ways to support TSA events at school.
Being part of NTHS also comes with benefits. Students must meet a grade-point-average requirement and go through an acceptance process to join. There are scholarships available to members that can help strengthen college applications.
“It looks good on the college application to say that you are in the Technical Honor Society,” explained Hanover.
As the team grows under strong leadership and continues its journey, the National Technical Honor Society at Fauquier High is poised to become a lasting pillar of the school’s expanding CTE community.
