Polyn Ean is ready to bring his “fresh philosophy” to Fauquier High School’s (FHS) math department. From teaching in his home country of Cambodia to teaching mathematics at FHS, Ean’s experience is extensive. Previously, he has taught sophomore, junior, and senior math classes. This 2025-2026 year, Ean will be teaching Algebra II, and he is ready to get his students excited about learning.
Ean moved to the United States nine years ago. While Ean noted that his job as a teacher is “not very different” between the two countries, there were notable cultural differences. In Cambodia, Ean found that the cultural view surrounding seniority shaped class dynamics. Here, there’s a greater emphasis on open dialogues.
Despite this difference, his enthusiasm persists and his motto remains the same: “Education is…power.” When discussing the doors high school can open, Ean said, “You can move your life up and down depending on your education.” Ean emphasized taking advantage of every opportunity that presents itself.
Ean also encourages his students to develop their work ethic because, “If [you] don’t pay attention, [it] doesn’t matter how smart you are, you’re not gonna get it.” Ean believes success depends on two key values: hard work and respect for others. In fact, he encourages students to reach out and build those relationships because teachers want to see all their students succeed.
Outside the classroom, Ean has enjoyed his time living in Fauquier County thus far. Notably, he praised Fauquier’s nice and peaceful environment, even mentioning that his favorite part of Fauquier was the lack of traffic. Like his compassion inside the classroom, outside of school, Ean’s passion is to help others however he is able.
Even though the school year has only just begun, Ean is ready to share his love of learning and prove that any student can succeed as long as they give it their all.
