Morgan’s Message is one of the various unique clubs in Fauquier High School (FHS). Morgan’s Message is an organization that was formed in honor of Morgan Rodgers, who lost her battle with mental health. The club is available on high school and college campuses to support other student-athletes with their mental health.
Maria Camarca, who is a senior at FHS, is an ambassador of the Morgan’s Message club. Camarca joined this club because “[she] heard about it when [she] was younger and always thought how awesome it was.” She added, “I also play sports, [so] I understand how [sport] can really affect you mentally, and I wanted to help out.”
A significant reason that pushed Camarca to become Morgan’s Message ambassador is: “I want to help the organization,…students and just spread awareness.”
Anyone in FHS is welcome to join the club. Its impact on student members has been evident. Morgan’s Message has greatly affected Camarca. As she stated, “[Morgan’s Message] has brought me to be more aware of other people’s mental health problems and other ways that it could happen in sports that you might not think of.”
Even though Camarca has just begun her journey as an ambassador, and the results of her work are yet to be seen, she has spoken with younger girls and upperclassmen to help them get involved with the club. This is the start of Camarca’s future achievements in Morgan’s Message.
Morgan’s Message fosters a fantastic community here at FHS, prioritizing students’ mental health through a combination of sports and academics. It is a great way to protect and learn about the potential impact it could have on individuals.
