It can be hard for people to make friends but a “Dungeons and Dragons” (D&D) club presents a great opportunity for people to come together and foster a sense of community. D&D is a game that exerts fun and welcoming communities. While D&D is very popular, it does require a fair amount of people to play. Gathering a group of four to five can be a tall ask for some, but this club will help by providing the needed group to start a campaign.
D&D is an extremely popular table-top role-playing game. It presents an excellent opportunity for people to come together and be social. In-person social interaction is so important and the modern world has people spending less and less time face-to-face which is why the D&D club is so relevant. D&D club is a safe space for people to come together and bond over a shared interest in person. The club will provide people with a creative outlet that also works to sharpen the mind by helping develop skills like memorization and quick addition.
D&D can help people become better by developing social skills like empathy, while also being comfortable without the spotlight and being comfortable within the spotlight. This new club also holds an opportunity to practice skills like basic math and reading comprehension. Additionally, it's also a general brain challenge with how much of D&D is a puzzle. Social intelligence is necessary for D&D and this club provides a great opportunity to develop skills that are underutilized in today's online-focused world. The tight-knit connections that D&D fosters creates an incredible emotional support system. Librarian and D&D club advisor Katelyn Verrill saw the benefits that D&D brings and that's why she is setting up the club, “I figure we have an anime club here at school…and there's a need for that, absolutely. So, I figured D&D might reach a different group that might need a place.” The D&D club will be a fantastic addition to the school and net positive in many ways.
