Fahad Mohammed is the newest addition to the math department at Fauquier High School (FHS). Mohammed started at FHS in the beginning of September, teaching Algebra I. As he gets adjusted to the teaching environment, Mohammed can’t wait to learn more about FHS culture.
Mohammed was born in India and grew up in Saudi Arabia from the age of four. He came to America in the ninth grade in 2016 and attended Manassas Park High School. “I spent much of my defining years there,” Mohammed stated about his high school. After he graduated from Manassas Park High School, Mohammed took a two-year break before attending Virginia Tech. Mohammed went to Virginia Tech from 2022 to 2024. “I had a lot of AP credits from high school. I did really well in high school. That’s [how] I could…finish my degree in two years,” Mohammed mentioned.
Before coming to FHS, Mohammed had spent the past six to seven months teaching at Mathnasium. “That has given me a trial period of teaching…I’ve kind of figured out that I’m good at it,” Mohammed commented.
Since Mohammed is still settling in with teaching at FHS, he’s also learning a lot about his students and what teaching style works best for them. “I’m more of a fast-paced, cutthroat kind of teacher where I’ll just be like, ‘Here’s what you need to learn,’ but with my students, I have to be really careful in how much information I’m giving so [I don’t] overload them with it,” Mohammed added.
The FHS building is truly what attracted Mohammed to the school. “This is the most beautiful, most amazing high school I’ve ever been to,” said Mohammed. Not only the general architecture, but also how the school is run. Mohammed appreciates how the students are engaged with one another and the environment. After seeing how students at FHS interact with one another on campus, Mohammed feels “The student body [has] very much [of] a college feel,” With Mohammed still being fairly new, he’s still observing and getting a feel of how FHS’s culture is.
Aside from Mohammed’s love for math, he also loves anything academic-related. History and science are also among his favorites. “My original goal was to be a theoretical astrophysicist,” Mohammed added. Although Mohammed still has an interest in returning to school for a deeper dive into math, he is grateful to be at FHS. In the future, Mohammed is even considering furthering his teaching role by becoming a college professor.
A big interest of Mohammed’s in his free time is watching anime. He first started watching anime in the eighth grade and has been a fan ever since. With Mohammed seeing over 200 to 300 at this point, his favorites are either “One Piece” or “Attack on Titan.” “When I was moving to America, I had a period of time…where I didn’t go to school. In that time period, I watched my first three anime,” Mohammed commented. Those three anime were “Dragon Ball Z,” “Naruto” and “One Piece.”
Mohammed is the perfect addition to the FHS math department, and he can’t wait to help his students succeed and findsee excitement in his math class.
